Iron plate action shooting or I.P.A.S, is the
latest and ultimate action shooting discipline, designed specifically for the
multi shot Co2
and Air cartridge pistols.
The discipline relies on two basic
principles, Accuracy and speed. To be successful in this discipline the
competitor must be well rounded in both these key principals.
For example it is not enough to be super
accurate without speed, and speed alone is nothing without accuracy, after all
it’s not the first shot that counts, it’s the first shot that hits that
counts!

On Friday 3/10/2008 i returned to the Buxted club with Gary Morrison to see how things were progressing on the IPAS front. When i got there, the plates were already up and ready for action. And what quaility plates they were too. Ten and twelve inches in size and approx. 5mm in thickness, mounted on large sturdy bases.
As before their were about eight of us shooting, each one taking turns to either RO , score or recharge the mags etc.The courses of fire took into account the narrowness of the range and as such 18m to 20m shots were common place. Each shooter had the choice of using a pistol with either a scope or open sights and all apart from myself shot from the tyro position. However the the interest in holsters is emerging, needless to say that i expect to see more than couple being used next time i go there. We managed to complete three courses of fire before packing up to go home, all in all a very enjoyable evening and looking forward to the next visit.......

Results for the Phoenix Match have been posted on the results page and the six stages
used in the match have been added to the master stage listing (see links on the
left). I would like to thank all the people that attended and helped run the
match over the weekend with out you this would not have been possible, also to
all our friends, new and old many thanks for attending with out you there would
not have been a match.
I was contacted by Gary Morrison of the Buxted club the other week, who said that they were really interested in shooting IPAS at their club.
He went on to say that their pistol section was all but dead and that in his opinion IPAS was just the thing to get things going again. So on Friday 16 /05/2008, myself and Gary took the ipas plates etc up to the Buxted club for a presentation and have ago session.
The presentation which took about 20 mins, was spent covering the origins of IPAS, rules, safety, equipment and other range protocol such as safety areas, gasing and de-gasing.
After that we went into the range area to check out the suitability for IPAS.The range it`self although 25m in length is only approximately 4m wide, but despite that it is well lit and dry, the latter being a total contrast to the Brighton range.
With that out of the way, I set up the plates for some shooting as usual the kids were pushed to the front while the dads looked on apprehensivley. After I showed them the best way to hold the pistol they were shooting runs of about 8 to 9 secs, which isn`t bad when you consider that they normally shoot HFT with a rifle.
Once the kids had set the pace the dads stepped up to the line and with some tips on the grip were putting in similar times, with one or two runs in or under the 6 sec mark.
All in all it was an enjoyable evening for all who attended and I'm told that as I write this report they are getting together a set of plates. Gary also tells me that the folks at some other clubs in the area including Horsham are very interested.
So hopefully we will have a lot more folks shooting IPAS in the near future........
The rules page has been updated with version three, I still need to check them through again , please post on the discussion forum if you spot any glaring mistakes.
